Tag cloud

I've decided that, since there's limits on the length of my tags here, I'm going to set up a full tags hierarchy here so that I don't have to use the coloned tags. That should simplify things quite a bit.
What follows is a list of tags that I either am using or plan to use, with a short description of each.
  • Science
Science is the method by which new things are learned about the material world. Strictly speaking, all questions of science are questions of metaphysics.
    • Evolution
The Theory of Evolution is the most basic theory of biology.
      • Memetics
Memetics is a theoretical and highly abstract offshoot of evolutionary theory dealing with ideas.
    • Game Theory
Game theory is the study of the mathematics behind rational behavior.
      • Zero-Sum Games
A zero-sum game is a game in which two players are placed in direct competition.
      • Non-Zero-Sum-Games
A non-zero-sum game is a game in which all players are capable of cooperating or defecting from one another at will.
        • Prisoner's Dilemma
The Prisoner's Dilemma is a game in which the interests of the players are opposed, but pure selfishness on the part of both players is worse that pure altruism.
      • Metagames
A metagame is a game that influences the outcome of a future game.
  • Philosophy
Philosophy is the art of answering the "deep questions" of reality.
    • Epistemology
Epistemology is the branch of philosophy dealing with the question: "How can we know what is true?"
    • Metaphysics
Metaphysics is the branch of philosophy dealing with the question: "How does the world work?" Strictly, all questions of science are questions of metaphysics.

Ethics is the branch of philosophy dealing with the question: "What is right and what is wrong?"
      • Egalitarianism

        • Feminism
Feminism is a social and political movement focused on women's rights. Contrary to what you might have heard, most branches of feminism promote the idea that men, women, and individuals who do not strictly fit into either category should be equal; rather than being a female-supremacist movement.
        • Privilege
Privilege is a set of cultural biases that benefit one category of individuals at the expense of another.
      • Consequentialism
Consequentialism is the school of thought that no act or intention is inherently right or wrong; that rightness and wrongness are determined purely by results.
        • Hedonic Utilitarianism
Hedonic Utilitarianism is the idea that right and wrong are determined by the amount of pleasure they produce in all living beings.
      •  Justice
Justice is the question of what should be done with criminals and wrongdoers. It is filed under both ethics and politics because it deals with both ideals (such as the idea of giving criminals their "just desserts" or seeking the best outcome for all involved) and the practical matters involved in implementing them (such as reducing false convictions or recidivism)
    • Politics
Politics is the branch of philosophy dealing with the question: "What would an ideal society look like?"
      • Egalitarianism
Egalitarianism is the school of thought that all people should be equal. It is filed under both ethics and politics because it is both a school of ethics and a political movement.
